Potato Derby!

We had a ward activity that was so much fun! – it was hilarious. We had a potato derby – kind of like a pinewood derby. We had a potato bar and salads for dinner. And then they had a big bucket of potatoes and a bunch of wheels and axles for everyone to make a potato car. They had feathers, zip ties, buttons, markers, tacks, straight pins, flags, tooth picks – all for decorating our cars. True to form – bishop Ohlwiler brought this extra 6” bolt to poke in the front of his potato to give it extra weight. It back fired on him though – his car kept falling off the track. Brother Ward was another funny one – he came prepared with his drill to sand down the axles, and graphite to make the wheels spin faster. We ran the potatoes just like a regular pinewood derby race. We had potatoes losing wheels, potatoes that were high centered and didn’t even move, some that made it half way down and stopped, some that crashed at the bottom. We all laughed so hard. The male ego and trash talk alone was a riot.

Picture the "Rat-mobile" with wheels. We had to leave the wheels at the church for next years re-match! haha
