Pebble Beach Golf Course

We have a funny story to tell about our stop at the Pebble Beach golf course. First of all, you have to know that Tom was in awe just being there - like he said, "one of the top golf courses in all the world." We first did a little looking around at the pro shop, then we decided to see what the lodge looked like. We felt a little conspicuous wearing our travel clothes, but we decided who would ever see us again, so we went for it! When we walked out of the lodge to enjoy the view of the 18th green and the ocean, we noticed there were dozens of Japanese tourists swarming all over the 18th green fairway. It was late in the afternoon and there were no longer golfers on the course, so I guess the Japanese tourists felt like they could walk out onto the green and take souvenir photos holding the flag etc., and that's what they were doing and then wandering on back up the entire length of the fairway towards the 18th tee!! We thought this was CRAZY, but of course we decided "to do like the Japanese were doing". The whole family decided to make our way down the stairs of the lodge/clubhouse and out onto the 18th green to pose for some photos of our own! After all as Tom said, "this is the "holy ground" of the Pebble Beach 18th hole,... he said he almost felt disrespectful and certainly out of place by walking on the same ground that Tiger, Phil, Nicklaus, and others also walked on!"... Finally some old guy in a security uniform came out yelling at us all to get off the green and get off the course and then he started heading back up the fairway to chase off the dozens of Japanese tourists. We tried to slink off the course as inconspicuously as possible, ya right! This may be as close as Tom ever gets to playing this course. I think it costs around $400 a round and you have to stay in the hotel for two nights to even get a tee time. That can't be cheap! Well anyway, it's a fun memory!!
